Working Out With a Friend : Benefits of the Buddy System
٢٧ يناير ٢٠١٩ م
If you follow us on social media, you’ve probably heard us say, “Couples who kick together, stick together.” And while we can’t guarantee that kicking it with us will cement your relationship status for FOR-EH-VER, we can guarantee that it will make your time together a lot more fun! But it’s more than that. Having a workout partner, whether it’s your bestie, a colleague, or someone you just met at the gym, boasts a bevy of benefits. If you think working out is strictly a one-player game, we’ve made an argument for buddying-up below:
1. There’s emPOWERment in numbers.
Whether it’s the new sushi place that just opened down the street, or a new workout routine, trying new things is a lot easier when you do it with a friend. If the idea of trying a new kickboxing workout seems intimidating, enlist a buddy to join you! BONUS: at 9Round, you both get your first workout FREE!
2. A little accountability goes a long way.
People pay “accountability coaches” to call, text, and email them to hold them to their commitments to exercise and/or healthy eating (we learned that one watching "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.") Social support works, even if it’s just a friend (or paid consultant) calling you on the phone. Imagine, then, how effective it is when you’re getting that support face-to-face from a real, live workout partner.
3. Working out becomes less work.
You know how work seems a lot less like work when you can share a laugh, vent your frustrations, or brainstorm with your next-door cube-mate? The same goes for working out. In fact, maybe working out with a buddy should be called funning out. The more fun your workouts are, the more likely you are to stay committed. Because who gives up on fun?!
4. Working out to win.
Your workout buddy doesn’t need to be a trainer (you get one of those with every 9Round workout.) But creating a little friendly competition may also up your game. Whether you’re in the club or at the gym, it never hurts to have someone there to make sure you’re going to reach your fitness goals.
5. It takes two to tango.
While you can certainly practice your footwork on your own, you can’t leave your dance partner hanging. Even on a day when it would be so much easier to just bail on your workout, having a partner who is counting on you to show up and show out makes all the difference in the world. Also, if you’re working out with someone, you’re more likely to schedule your exercise. The simple act of making an actual appointment to work out makes you significantly more likely to do it.
BYOB (bring your own buddy) or ask us about pairing you up with a fellow 9Rounder. Either way, we think you’ll agree that having someone to kick it with makes working out a lot less work! If you (or your future workout pal) have never worked out with us before, claim your free workout below.
